Crate Brewery has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help fund a major expansion and upgrade of its East London home.

The brewery, based at The While Building in Hackney Wick, is aiming to raise £500,000 to help fund a new state-of-the-art brewery, double the size of its taproom and open a new restaurant.

There are also plans to open a new events space with a year-round cultural programme, alongside 1000ft of “affordable workspace” to act as an incubator for talent and small businesses.

The campaign is now open for funding via Crowdcube. Crate, which first opened in 2012, is the latest craft brewery in the UK to go down the crowdfunding route, following in the footsteps of the likes of Seven Brothers, Wild Beer Co, BrewDog and Siren.

According to the Crowdcube sales page, Crate turned over nearly £4m last year, selling 1m pints of beer and 120,000 pizzas from its Hackney Wick HQ. Recent growth of the brand has also seen it secure a deal for its beers to be stocked in 15,000 Tesco supermarkets across the UK.

“We now have the chance to turn our already wonderful space into a true mecca for craft beer fans and a proper hub for creativity.”

More than £100,000 had already been pledged within a day of the campaign officially opening. Investments start from £10, which include a pizza and a pint as a reward. Learn more on how to invest in Crate at Crowdcube, or watch the video below.
